Another commonly used blackjack term is the hole card. This is a blackjack term shared with another famous game - Texas Hold'em. Hole cards are essentially any card that is face down on the table. A hard hand in blackjack is a hand that uses the one value of an ace, rather than the eleven. While often referenced in many blackjack strategies, mechanically a hard hand bears no difference to a soft hand, where the ace uses the eleven value.
This is among the most used blackjack terms, but it is one that specifically belongs to card counting. The term is the running count, or the count for the current shoe or hand. Each hand or card dealt changes the count, ideally, to make sure that the count is accurate and that the players are able to bet accordingly.
